All the fish in a lake in Bristol are to be removed and euthanized in a bid to discourage fishing. In 2014, the local Neighbourhood Partnership voted to ban fishing at St George Park lake to stop wildlife being harmed by fishing line and hooks. It has now approved an option proposed by Bristol City Council to destroy the fish rather than relocate them. But Maggie Waldon, from the Friends of St George Park Group, said it did not support "outright killing of the fish". The old boating lake, according to Ms Waldon, was stocked with fish about 20 years ago and has been used as a fishing lake for many years. "It's become very run down and there are far too many fish in there to support any kind of ecosystem," she admitted. "We would really like to reduce the number of fish but we don't support the outright killing of the fish. There are some fish that are very unwell in which case that's fair enough but our policy would be to relocate them and find them new homes." But Rob Acton-Campbell, chairman of the St George Neighbourhood Partnership, said it "would be more expensive to try and move them".

The Registry of Motor Vehicles has allowed a Massachusetts woman to wear a spaghetti strainer on her head in her driving licence picture as an expression of her "Pastafarian" religion. The RMV does not allow drivers to wear hats in their pictures, unless it is for a medical or religious purpose. She won her appeal with the RMV thanks to the help of an attorney associated with the American Humanist Association. "As a member of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, I feel delighted that my Pastafarianism has been respected by the Massachusetts RMV," she said. "While I don’t think the government can involve itself in matters of religion, I do hope this decision encourages my fellow Pastafarian Atheists to come out and express themselves as I have."
Singing acts as a "bonding behaviour" among adults, making it easier for people to make new friends, psychologists at Oxford University have found. A study published in the Royal Society’s Open Science journal watched how strangers’ relationships progressed over several months of creative writing, craft and singing classes. Out of seven courses, the singers became closer much quicker – a result attributed the ice-breaking "power of a good sing-song". Dr Eiluned Pearce, who led the research at Oxford’s Department of Experimental Psychology, said: "One of the key differences between humans and other primates is that we can exist in much larger social groups".
A 14-year old girl from Henrico County, Virginia, could be charged with assault and battery after she threw a baby carrot at one of her former teachers. School disciplinary documents allege a baby carrot was used as a weapon in an assault and battery of a Moody Middle School teacher. "I don't even know how to combat the stupidity," Karrie May, whose 14-year-old daughter Aliya is currently suspended for launching the vegetable, said.
